Meals

At Evoke we take great pride in our healthy, fresh, and tasty meals.
We believe mealtimes should be a joyful, healthy and inviting experience for all.

In order to achieve this vision, our on-site chef works in collaboration with an external nutritionist to develop our seasonal menus inspired by a Mediterranean style cuisine, with a variety recipes to meet children’s health and dietary requirements. Our educators then support children’s mealtimes by structuring progressive mealtimes and role modelling the importance of respectful and healthy relationships with food.

Mealtimes are an opportunity for us to promote a sense of belonging and our environments are set in a way that supports mealtimes to be social and relaxed occasions where children have time to eat, make choices for themselves, follow their own bodily cues and interact with others.

We also understand the importance of connecting with the environment and inspiring children to look after it. Therefore, we use mealtimes as a way to connect with the environment through hands-on learning experiences that helps children and adults explore nutrition and discover new foods while helping them develop lifelong skills. We do this by using samples from our very own garden guided by children and educator’s input to inspire our menu and engage in profound conversations about food and its origins with consideration for buying/growing local where possible, reducing our fuel miles and ensuring ethically and environmentally responsive grown and sourced produce.

Evoke recognises the importance of safe food handling and healthy eating to promote the growth and development of young children and is committed to supporting the healthy food and drink choices of children in our care. We acknowledge that the early childhood setting has an important role in supporting families in healthy eating. Our Service therefore recognises the importance of supporting families to provide healthy food and drink to their children.

We are committed to implementing the healthy eating key messages outlined in the Australian Dietary Guidelines and the Australian Guide to Healthy Eating. We support and promote the Health initiative Munch & Move and utilise the Australian Government’s Get Up & Grow-Healthy Eating and Physical Activity for Early Childhood and Eat for Health resources.

We also work with parents to ensure details of any food allergies or intolerances or specific dietary requirements are communicated to the Educators and Chef and work in partnership with families to develop an appropriate response so that children’s individual dietary needs are met.
